Frequently Asked Questions

What is Career Development?

Today’s careers are not as linear as they used to be, at times emerging out of chance events, encounters or conversations. Career development helps you: - clarify your career goals, - understand your options, - gain resources and strategies, - manage change and - identify your potential. It is designed to save you from making costly mistakes, moving you towards meaningful work, education and or training. Career Development: - identifies your strengths, skills (& transferable skills), interests, values and motivators within the context of your life - explores different work, education or training options - develops a plan for you to achieve your career goals.

How do you work?

My practice draws on evidence-based career theories, models and research, together with my life experience. I offer a tailored approach to my sessions by hearing your story and identifying your goals, strengths, skills, interests, values, motivators and other influences. Working collaboratively with you, learning from you, walking beside you as you gain knowledge and confidence to make career decisions that suit your life. Gathering the information, together, we bridge the gap, from where you are now to where you would like to be.

How many sessions will I need?

This will depend on your needs and goals. I offer a free 20 minute initial consultation to help understand your needs and goals; and giving you the opportunity to decide if you would like to work with me, moving forward. Career development is an ongoing process over our life time, so on-going or future sessions may be useful.

How will sessions help me?

By clarifying what is important to you. Discovering what brings you meaning and fulfillment. Considering your multiple life roles and responsibilities. Helping to expand and narrow your options for education, training and or work. Building confidence in your career decision making. Providing strategies and direction with action plans for your next steps.
